For the last few weeks, some of the young people have been discovering the Nativity story for themselves. I wondered how the well worn story (although absolutely relevant) might be studied in a way that young people can get to grips with the reality of Christmas, the Christmas underneath the trimmings. Sorted is run by young people for young people, so the first task is finding out what the young people would like to discuss over the Advent season and whether or not the Nativity Story could be an option.
I am very please to say, that with no persuasion, the young people voted to discover the Nativity Story for themselves. A small task!
After much thought and prayer, I decided that to really and truly experience the story (some of Sorted had never heard the Christmas Story) the young people would chose characters within the story and we would imagine ourselves as those characters. We would tell the story and pause to examine feelings, emotions and how our thinking effects ourselves and others. We looked at other Bible readings to inform our learning and ended with light prayers with deep meanings. We respected each other just as we are.
So far, so good. Perhaps there is an opportunity for others to re-examine the Christmas story for themselves. You never know, they might just get it sorted! Will You?
Wishing you all a blessed Christmas,
